Dr Fatania is a Registered and Chartered Consultant Forensic Psychologist and holds a BSc (Hons) Psychology (2004) and Doctorate in Forensic Psychology Practice (incorporating the MSc in Forensic Psychology Practice) (2010).
She has 18 years of experience working in private, contractual and NHS services of which 12 years she has been a qualified Forensic Psychologist. In the NHS, she has been employed as a Forensic Psychologist working in a Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team (CRHTT), medium secure forensic mental health in-patient service and on the Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway Project for West Midlands Probation. Formerly, she was appointed as the Senior Psychologist for the clinical psychology department at HMP Birmingham where she was responsible for leading on the delivery and development of mental health services for prisoners.
During her career she has delivered psychological therapy using various models of treatment including CBT, SFT, ACT and DBT. she is also an Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist. She has worked therapeutically with individuals with personality disorders, substance dependency, offending, psychosis, mood disorders, anxiety, depression, suicide and self-harm, neurodiversity needs and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and trauma. She has experience of working with adults with acute and serious mental health needs.
Teaching and training has been a component of her role delivering topics related to family violence, domestic violence, and so-called honour-based violence; psychological risk assessment and treatment of violent and sexual offenders; treatment of mental health needs in the prison population and the criminology of offending behaviour. She has worked in a consultancy role providing psychological consultation, formulation and advice for the management of high-risk offenders under the supervision of West Midlands Probation on the OPD Pathway Project.
